Now, as you already know that Georgia is an affordable country to pursue MBBS from, you still need to understand the various factors affecting your finances.

The overall cost to study in Georgia depends on three factors.

  • University tuition fees

* please again check the USD to INR conversion rate while you are reading this. At the time of writing, we have calculated taking 1 USD = 70 INR.

Looking at these numbers, you can easily compare the tuition fee of medical education in Indian private universities and medical universities in Georgia and figure which one is more affordable.

Now, let’s jump onto our next topic of discussion.

Living cost

Living cost further depends upon two factors: whether you choose to say inside the campus or outside the campus. Let’s discuss both the factors one by one.

If you choose to stay on campus, then you have to pay the hostel/mess fees which is almost similar in all cases.

Hostel/ Mess Fee (per month) USD 225 - 250 INR 15,500 - 17,500

The only case is that as students all around the globe want to pursue MBBS from Georgia so the demands can be very high for the hostel accommodation. This is why we recommend that you apply for your hostel slot prior to the date of joining the college.

If you still don’t get the slot, this doesn’t mean you should throw away your opportunity of pursuing MBBS from one of the elite universities in Georgia. In this case, you can opt for an off-campus stay during your course of MBBS from Georgia.

When you chose to stay off-campus, you have to manage the following expenses:

Monthly Rent INR 13,500 - 20,000
House Utilities (Electric gas, Heating, etc)
INR 3,500 - 5,500
Internet
INR 600
Groceries and Food
INR 1500 - 2000

* check the conversion rate of Georgian Lari to Indian Rupees. We have estimated the cost by taking 1 Georgian Lari = 22.83 Indian Rupee.

Let’s take a look at all the other miscellaneous expenses that can give a punch to your bank account while pursuing your MBBS.

Other expenses

There are a lot of things that students don’t take into account before setting up their budget before pursuing their studies in Georgia. Check out the table:

Clothing INR 2,500 - 3,000
Doctor’s Visit
INR 700 - 900
Medicines
INR 300 - 700
Entertainment
INR 1,000 - 1,500
Transportation
INR 2,000 - 2,500
Books (Annual spending)
INR 7,000 - 9,000

* check the conversion rate of Georgian Lari to Indian Rupees. We have estimated the cost by taking 1 Georgian Lari = 22.83 Indian Rupee.

According to KCR Consultants, these listings are the basic necessities that you need for MBBS in Georgia. You can add or remove things you want according to your needs and wants.

If we add up all the costs, then the average spending for a student pursuing MBBS in Georgia is around INR 20,00,000 – 40,00,000 depending upon the university and the lifestyle you prefer.

This wraps up our discussion on the cost of pursuing MBBS in Georgia. Let’s discuss another important question before taking the step to study MBBS in Georgia.

African medical students

Is NEET required for MBBS in Georgia?

This is one of the important questions that students enquire about, and the answer is YES.

You need to clear the NEET exam if you want to pursue MBBS in Georgia.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is an important exam for medical aspirants who want to pursue their dental course (BDS) and undergraduate medical course (MBBS) in India and in Georgia.

There is no qualification exam required for admission in Georgia, and this is why the authorities consider NEET qualification for the filtration.

You need to submit your NEET scorecard once you reach the Georgian embassy for your visa interview appointment.

Along with NEET, here are some other eligibility criteria required for MBBS in Georgia:

  • Your age should be 17+ before 31st December of the year you want to apply for MBBS in Georgia
  • You have qualified your 12th standard with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as your primary subjects
  • You should qualify your 12th with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology

Apart from this, there are some important documentation requirements for MBBS in Georgia to avail your visa, let’s check them:

  • You need to show your 10th and 12th passing certificates scanned or original that’s your decision
  • This is the most basic but important point. You need a passport for your MBBS in Georgia, make a few copies of the original document
  • You need to show your birth certificate. Don’t provide it in any regional language and make sure it’s in the English language
  • You need to provide a migration certificate which you’ll get from your school after completion of the 12th standard
  • You need to show proof that you can cover your tuition fees. Bank statements of parents or guardians will work in this case
  • You need to provide medical proof that you are medically fit
  • Few latest passport size photographs
  • You need to show your application form or the university’s acceptance letter
  • You need to show your air tickets to Georgia
  • A scanned copy of your NEET scorecard

After completing all these formalities, you’ll successfully get your visa application.

Is MBBS from Georgia valid in the UK?

Of course, YES. In fact, not only in the UK, you can practice medicine wherever you want to do in the world after completing your MBBS in Georgia.

You just need to clear the licensing exam of the country, which you want to choose for practicing medicine.

For the UK, the exam is termed as Professional Linguistics Assessment Board (PLAB) exam. For the US it’s United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), and for India, its Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE).

The UK

The exam is important if you want to work as a doctor in the UK or you want to apply for a postgraduate training course as a doctor in the UK.

PLAB is divided into two phases, i.e. PLAB 1 and PLAB 2.

PLAB 1

Your clinical knowledge is tested in this written exam. The questions are around topics like Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Paediatrics, Gynaecology/Obstetrics, Medicine, Surgery,  and Basic Sciences.

It’s a multiple-choice exam with 180 single answer questions. The duration of the exam is three hours.

You’ll be given different scenarios, and then you’ll be asked a question based on that scenario. You have to choose one correct option from the given five choices.

You can give the PLAB part 1 exam in any available country apart from the UK. You just need to check the availability once you login to the GMC website.

PLAB 2

This exam will check your skills in communication and clinical knowledge. It’s an OSCE (Objective structured clinical examination) examination.

It is totally based to check your practical knowledge. No theory is involved in this part.

You’ll be given 18 scenarios, lasting eight minutes. A real-life setup will be done, including a mock consultation as well.

You can check the General Medical Council website for registration and other queries regarding the Professional Linguistics Assessment Board (PLAB) exam.

This can be a difficult and stressful part of the PLAB exam, but if you have enough practical knowledge, you can score great in this examination.

Let’s check the eligibility criteria for giving the Professional Linguistics Assessment Board (PLAB) exam:

You need to prove proficiency in the English language; you need to clear IELTS or TOEFL with good grades.

For IELTS alone, you need 7.5 bands in all the sections of the exam i.e. reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

You need to have an MBBS degree. Job experience is not required for appearing in this exam. Just like the UK, you can practice medicine in the US also with your MBBS degree from Georgia.

The US

As you know, the licensing exam in the US is known as the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USML). It is an important step in a physician’s life if he/she wants to work in the US.

It is helpful in accessing the authorities about the physician’s ability to apply concepts, knowledge, and principles.

If you apply for it, your patient-centered skills will also be tested which are important in case of proper patient care.

It is managed by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB).

The USMLE exam is divided into three stages:

  • Stage 1 Clinical Skills (CS)
  • Stage 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK)
  • Stage 3 Final Exam

Different stages test different abilities and skills of candidates. You need to clear all the stages with flying colors in order to get a practicing license in the US.

There are only three attempts within a twelve-month period for an individual.

If you can’t clear this exam in three steps you need to apply for your fourth attempt after a gap of twelve months after your first attempt or at least six months after your latest attempt.

But you need to keep in mind the eligibility criteria for this exam. Either you should have an MD (Doctor of Medicine degree) or DO (Osteopathic Medicine degree) degree from any of the US or Canadian medical universities.

If your medical university is outside the US or Canada, then it should be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and should meet all the ECFMG (The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) criteria.

Now, let’s discuss licensing procedures in India.

India

When you have done your MBBS from Georgia, you can practice medicine in India as a Georgian medical university graduate once you clear the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE).

Conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE), the licensing exam in India is known as the Medical Council of India Screening Test or Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE).

MCI screening test is important as it checks the candidate’s common sense, basic concepts, ability to check time management, and application of concepts who have pursued their MBBS from abroad.

This is not to test all the nitty-gritty details of medical books. FMGE exam will check if you are fa

miliar with the important aspects.

Clearing this exam will be equivalent to a student who has pursued their MBBS from India. You choose your field of practice and happily make a career in the medical field in India.

One important factor that you need to fulfill after clearing the FMGE exam is that you need to do a one-year internship in India. If you cannot do that even after clearing the FMGE exam, then you’ll be left unemployed in India.

You don’t have any restrictions on the number of attempts for this examination. You just need a minimum of 50% marks in order to qualify Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE).

The exam has 300 multiple-choice questions and is divided into two sections of 150 marks each.

It is conducted twice a year but you need to be very serious regarding this exam if you really want to practice medicine in India because if we check statistically only 19% of the students are successful in clearing this exam.

So now you know how graduating from Georgia with an MBBS degree can open up great opportunities to practice all around the globe and not just in the UK.
