Students' passion for medical study is as fiery as ever. But studying Medicine because that is what is expected of you is never a good idea. Make sure that your motives for choosing to do so are well-reasoned.
No doubt, the practice of Medicine offers a breadth of experiences that it is impossible to find in any other subject. At the same time it offers a meaningful career that is prestigious, secure and relatively well-paid.
Basic sciences of medicine is one of the main three branches of medicine and this is what every physician is educated in. The other two are Medical specialties and Interdisciplinary fields, where different medical specialties are mixed to function in certain occasions.
Medical education and training varies around the world. It typically involves entry level education at a university medical school, followed by a period of supervised practice or internship, and/or residency. This can be followed by postgraduate vocational training.
A variety of teaching methods have been employed in medical education, still itself a focus of active research. The highest honor awarded in medicine is the Nobel Prize in Medicine, awarded since 1901 by the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institute.
Screening Test Regulations Act 2002 & The Eligibility Criteria
As per the above act, an Indian citizen possessing a primary medical qualification awarded by any medical institution outside India shall have to qualify a screening test in India on his / her return, conducted by the prescribed authority, to qualify for provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council.
To qualify for the screening test, the person should have obtained the medical qualification from a WHO approved Institution or which is confirmed by the Indian Embassy concerned to be a recognized qualification for enrolment as medical practitioner in the country in which the institution awarding the said qualification is situated.
And also must have obtained ‘Eligibility Certificate’ from the Medical Council of India as per the ‘Eligibility Requirement for taking admission in an undergraduate medical course in a Foreign Medical Institution Regulations, 2002’.
THE EXCEMPTION : As per Screening test Regulations ( Amendment), 2011 a person holding an undergraduate Medical qualification from Australia / Canada / New Zealand / United Kingdom / United States of America and the holder thereof also been awarded a Post Graduate Medical qualification in such countries and has been recognized for enrolment as medical practitioner in that country, shall not have to qualify for the screening test.
